Village fund plan not meant to work

The village fund scheme is the organized theft of the nation's future. As expected, the bulk of the funds are being stolen via corruption and public debt is on the rise.

Many commentators chastise Thaksin for not anticipating this, but such an analysis is absurd. This outcome was premeditated.

Thailand is effectively a feudal society. If you, as the central leader, establish a structure that enriches your lords, the individuals who impose control over the various territories of your realm, they will never oppose your authority. Your position, and power, in whatever ways you choose to abuse it, will be ensured for as long as you desire.
